Joining Cary Gastroenterology in 2021, Dr. Brian Lappas is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Education
Dr. Lappas is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He received his Masters of Public Health from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and his medical degree from the University of North Carolina Medical School. Dr. Lappas completed his internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He then completed his Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and was Chief Fellow in 2020-2021.

I can’t speak highly enough about Dr. Lappas!! Very knowledgeable, friendly, professional and provides the best care I have ever received. In the past, I had always dreaded colonoscopy screening because of the necessary prep and dreaded clean out. The procedure prep he prescribed wasn’t bad at all and his thoroughness identified and diagnosed me with colon cancer. (My sister had died at age 51 with same type cancer). His swift actions got me into surgery quickly where a large cancerous tumor blocking my colon was removed that nearly cost me my life! Get your screening done, don’t wait like I did, as having a foot of your colon removed through surgery is difficult with a long, and painful recovery period! His actions saved my life!!

In 2025, I hesitate to not gate keep specialists for fear of everyone taking all the open appointments. Good ones are difficult to find across the board. My experience at this practice was excellent. The staff was friendly, Dr.Lappas was incredible and the portal system is easy to use. Dr.Lappas did a comprehensive review of my history with me, actively listened, and developed a tailored treatment plan to MY particular case. Anyone familiar with specialists these days will understand how important and rare that has become. I’m so relieved. Very happy to have found him.
